Mule Chaps are tough and built for comfort, whether you are working or playing or trying out your new hunting dog in the gnarliest briars! Mule Chaps are made of tough 1,000 Denier briarproof material, these chaps will shed briars and wind all day long. We added a 6"x6" pocket on each leg with a button-snap flap so you can stash a pocket knife, cell phone, keys, or even a snack! The pocket adds structure to the chaps which help keep them from twisting. Then, to make sure you have a product that lasts, each chap secures to your belt or belt loop with a top-grain leather strap and a nickel-plated 3/4" dog buckle. We even roll the hem up at least an inch an sew it with a strong nylon thread. And to make sure it stays put, we secure the hem with four rows of stitching! We pay attention to details so you can wear your chaps with no worries! Mule Chaps come in two different styles: Plain and Waterproof.

Mule Plain Chaps are anything but Plain! They feature pockets, top grain leather straps, 18" heavy-duty zippers in each leg and more! Very lightweight but don't let that fool you...they're MULE tough!

Mule Wateproof Chaps have all of the features of the Plain chaps PLUS they have a lining that helps stops the passage of water from the outside to you. The liner does not breathe and will trap body heat so it will keep you warmer. Please note: if you somehow manage to get a thorn to penetrate the outer material and it punctures the liner, the chaps will leak. Stuff with holes in it leak...its just the way it is.

  • 1,000 Denier Briarproof Material that is naturally water-resistant
  • 6"x6" pockets on each leg with button-snap closure
  • 18" heavy-duty zippers in each leg
  • Top-grain leather straps with 3/4" nickel-plated buckles and plenty of length for a custom fit
  • Waterproof lining can be added for an additional cost
  • You get a chap for each leg with every order (we get asked this all the time...we apologize for any confusion)

Brown or Green

Sizing: Sizes are stated in thigh width by inseam length (ie: 26X28).

Thigh size:
Measure around thigh, at the crotch, over your pants. We recommend adding 2" to that measurement. You do not want the chaps to fit tight or you will be squeezed in all the wrong places!

EZ Measure:
If you do not have a tailor's cloth tape measure, measuring is easy: open wallet, remove any denomination bill ($1, $5, $20...doesn't matter). A dollar bill is 6" long. Place the bill around the widest part of your thigh over your pants and measure your thigh end to end using dollar bill, then add 2". Example: If the dollar bill, end to end, goes around your thigh 4 times, that's 24", you would then add 2", making your chap thigh size a 26"...that's the size you would order.

Measure from the crotch to the ankle bone. Stop at the ankle bone. Do not measure further because the chaps need to "hang" not fold on the top of your shoes. Generally, the inseam length is 2" shorter than your normal pant inseam length and you can use the EZ Measure way listed above just measure from the crotch to your ankle bone (don't add anything extra to the length).

Why do we want you to wear your chaps 2" shorter than your pants? Because we care! 99.9% of the population wear their pants too long and it bunches on the top of the shoe. That's fine for blue jeans, but, briarproof material is thick and doesn't 'bunch' so if you get them as long as your jeans, instead of bunching, they're going to drag OR the kick-out on your boot will catch the back hem and tear out the hem or bust the zipper track when you step forward. Trust us...we do this for a living...order them 2" shorter. If you wear an odd numbered length of jean, order the next shortest even size. So, if you wear a 31" jean, order 28" long chaps. You will thank us every time you come home and your hem and zipper are still intact. You're welcome!

Best Chaps on the Market! June 8, 2013
Reviewer: Bryan Vernon from Newnan, GA United States
My rabbit hunting partner recommended I try these chaps out after I went through 3 other brands. I received my chaps yesterday and immediately took them out on a test run! Went through the thickest rabbit infested briar patch I could find... Never felt so much as a stick through these heavy duty chaps! The massive buckle is a huge plus, no need to worry about the chaps tearing up on you they are made to last. I look forward to running rabbits all season long and for many seasons to come! Neal and the entire mule company were a pleasure to do business with.

Mule Chaps Review December 5, 2012
Reviewer: Albert Baker from Powhatan, VA United States
I'm a field trial beagler and I spend a lot of time in the brush.  These chaps are great and you do not feel any briars, regardless how thick they are.

I recommend these chaps to anyone that needs protection from the briars.

Mule chaps November 5, 2011
Reviewer: Rich Miller from New Bethlehem, PA United States
This is the second season for my chaps. Positively briar proof. They still look new. The lightweight makes them a joy to wear all day. The only thing I would change is the leather strap a snap would be easier to use than the buckle.

first trip impressions(rabbit hunting) June 3, 2010
Reviewer: Brian Harless from Tahlequah, OK United States
First time out was sweet, made the briar thickets seem like sage grass. Can't figure out how I rabbit hunted before without them. I intentionally went through some serious stuff .  Green river briars would stop me of course(they are chaps not brush hogs),but just by being tangled up around my feet and legs. Black berry thickets was a breeze.  Oh so sweet!!! No more bloody shins ,and thighs. ALSO FOR THE RABBIT HUNTERS LESS FATIGUE . Yes hunt longer without  leg cramps from forceing your way through briars. I dont have dogs so I have to do the grunt work myself.... These chaps are a life saver( if anyone out there has a significant other that has picked up your blue jeans to do laundry and got a hand full of thorns knows about what I am saying, no more of that.) Ill write back a few trips down the road to give longevity updates.....happy hunting eveyone......

Mule Chap Review January 5, 2010
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from York Haven, PA United States
I bought these chaps right before season started. I am very happy with the performance of the chaps when it comes to briers. I have yet to have ANY go through the chaps. The Mule company was great with communication and helped with the order. The only thing I do not like about the chaps is that when the zipper is all the way up it sometimes jams. Over all I am very pleased and plan on buying a pair of bibs very soon. Thanks
